Although you can blame the Pandemic to some extent, Nintendo Direct and the way it is produced has shown Nintendo that there is a better (and free) platform for big announcements and that is why 2023 will be the 3rd year in a row that it will skip E3.

Nintendo confirmed to VentureBeat that they will not attend this year‘s E3 festivities citing that the E3 organization for 2023 did not fit in plans.

“We approach our involvement in any event on a case-by-case basis and are always considering various ways to engage with our fans. Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3.”

This will put more weight in the challenge for E3 as the original organizer, The Entertainment Software Association delegated this year’s activities to ReedPop as the event conductor and management.

With ReedPop already announcing the format of this year’s festivities, it seems that E3 did not appeal to Nintendo.

This is the first confirmation of a major rumor that stated that Sony will be continuing its self-hiatus on presenting at E3 and for the first time in a while, Microsoft is just an announcement away to confirm that it will also NOT attend the event.
