While the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X were physically done by 2020, Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios were stretching along with 3rd party gaming studios some more life with games until things normalized after the pandemic, but everything that has a beginning, has an end.
Microsoft Gaming head, Matt Boom, confirmed to Axios that Microsoft has stopped ordering new Xbox One game units and includes both the Xbox One S and X.
The un-surprising move was justified as current work within the family of Xbox Game Studios is not including the Xbox console for the 8th generation with the notable exception of support/updates for Minecraft and both Halo Master Chief Collection & Halo Infinite respectively by Mojang and 343 Industries.
The Xbox One was originally announced in May 2013 as the successor to Xbox 360, Xbox main hardware for the 8th generation of video gaming and the third console in the Xbox series.
In a historic first, Microsoft decided to run a mid-cycle upgrade in 2016 with the Xbox One S which improved the hardware to allow games to be upscaled to 4K and a year later, a device previously known as Project Scorpio and later being revealed as Xbox One X which added the capacity to compiling and run games natively at 4K.
The Xbox One family was stopped from being manufactured in 2020 after the Xbox Series S and Series X entered the market.
