Despite claiming for quite some time that Electronic Arts was in the business for a merger or being bought, CEO Andrew Wilson broke the news about the new Electronic Arts and it's a fresh start.
Electronic Arts announced it is realigning its major studios and its leadership structure in an effort to "empower our creative teams.", by effectively dividing the company into two entities.
One is EA Entertainment which will house most of EA’s IPs as well as licensed IP through.
Also, EAE will be developing interactive entertainment on a foundation of Electronic Arts franchises and innovative new experiences, which EA justify as its represents massive opportunities for growth.
Meanwhile the other entity and NO surprise here is EA Sport which houses all the current franchise for sport video games with Cam Weber (previous chief of Football games) has been appointed President of EA SPORTS.
Of course this includes changes in the executive branch of Electronic Arts and besides CAm Weber, Laura Miele, previously EA's Chief Operating Officer, will take over as EA President of Entertainment, Technology, and Central Development at EA Entertainment, where she will work closely with Vince Zampella and other well-known executives.
Chief Experiences Officer Chris Bruzzo is retiring, with EA Chief Financial Officer Chris Suh also departing the company. David Tinson and Stuart Canfield respectively will take over their responsibilities.
My immediate take on this is that, it is not a strange move if Electronic Arts really wants to capitalize on positives and having EA Sports on "his own" is presevering and sustaining any positive looking it as a virtual subsidiary and at the same time, I am interested what EA Entertainment got already in store for immediate future.
