Reminding you all that 343 Industries are the current developers of Halo but NOT the original makers, as Bungie and Microsoft decided to part ways in the late 2000’s and the condition is that Microsoft was to keep Halo as a franchise.
Since then, it has been quite a sandbox for the Xbox Game Studio members and this includes maintaining the essence and developing new experience with Halo and as for Halo Infinite it has been quite the work.
But since last week, it has come to the attention where 343 Industries confirmed reports that there are some works on Halo Combat Evolved from 2001, the original first Xbox game and there is interest in getting some cut content that didn’t make the light back then when Xbox launched.
Originally reported by PCGamesN, 343 Industries has teamed up with the mod group Digsite, reportedly since 2022, to reverse engineering the original source code of the first Halo game to pinpoint design/production docs, Bungie feedback notes, tags, compiled maps, and source data for previously unseen multiplayer maps.
MAps include some wired by Gearbox Software during the porting of the game to PC, which also didn't make it to the official launch.
Work has gone so well that even the Macworld 1999 sandbox demo was restored (Halo originally was going to be a Macintosh game, as Bungie was already a big Macintosh game developer before Microsoft bought them).
All when it is set and done, it will be included on Halo The Master Chief Collection for all players that have bought the collection and future buyers, but no date has been given yet for this massive update.
