In a turn of events when the Entertainment Software Association has been struggling with platforms like YouTube, Twitch and others that give almost FREE platforms for publishers and gaming studios to maintain the levels needed to justify running E3 every year, 2022 was the year.
But was the year that the challenge became more deeper unfortunately, thanks to the pandemic and after some insiders getting aloud, there is a general consensus that E3 was canceled, including partners receiving direct confirmation.
The ESA has been trying to get traction for E3 since January, trying the event to be physical, then the spike and the appearance of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 forced them to begin thinking again on virtual setup.
But it seems that things have not gone back to normal and finally ESA just went to the point that running the event with health security measures was impossible.
With this, ESA hopes to have a properly developed E3 2023 edition that will have both online and physical presence.

With good timing, Geoff Keighley reminded us, announcing that Summer Game Fest is confirmed for June of this year to go forward, as this show was seen as an unofficial expansion of E3 and probably will get a good influx of previews and content from gaming industry as E3 is non-existent this year.
