Users still playing their Playstation 3 and PS Vita were surprised to see a notification of an update and with this, Sony officially deployed the firmware 4.89 for PS3 and 3.79 but NO, is not any surprising improvement or anything like that.

Unfortunately it is a soft sunset from Sony to this two generation’s old system as the main feature of this update is that it disables the ability to create PSN accounts and also several account management options.

For me, it will not be surprising that even after the past backlash, Sony might once again wants to talk about closing the PS Store for the PS3 and PS Vita soon as the new PS Plus Tiers, particular the PS Plus Premium that brings gaming streaming to PS3 and PS Vita, gets the green light next month.

I haven’t tried to see if the update is mandatory before resuming playing as of the redaction of this, but I won’t be surprised if that was the case.
